Signs of Safety
Practice, Training, and Consulting
We know that applying the Signs of Safety framework can be a tedious and consuming effort. If you're finding it hard to transfer what you're learning into practice as fast as you'd like, we can offer help.
Connected Families staff is available for training and case consultation, using the S of S framework. Our training team has now trained in numerous jurisdictions across the United States, and in Canada. We have worked with Agencies ranging from 7 - 250 front line staff. We've seen consistently that the principles become most quickly and effectively ingrained when training and consultation are combined in the context of consulting on specific cases. We model this after the work Andrew Turnell did with cases in Carver County during his first four years of ongoing training here. About our work Dr. Turnell says:
"I have worked closely with the Connected Families team for the past six years. They know the Signs of Safety and Resolutions approaches inside out since they have used and continue to use them in their own practice with high risk child maltreatment cases. The Connected Families team have been centrally involved in the system wide implementation of the Signs of Safety as the organising framework for all practice in Carver County Community Social Services that began in 2005. Having been directly involved and instrumental in this implementation, the Connected Families team have branched out and now provide training and ongoing consultation for child protection agencies looking to use and implement the approach. I consider myself part of their team in providing this training and consultation work since I act as an ongoing consultant to them supporting them in these endeavours, so in a very real sense if you get them, you get me too. The Connected Families team know and use all of the training, supervisory and developmental methods that are most effective in making sure their Signs of Safety agency work does not stop at a great training experience but actually gets transferred into making a real difference in practice and in the organisational culture. Quite simply if you want to see the Signs of Safety being used in your agency these are the people you want alongside you!"

Our Signs of Safety History
In 2004, at the invitation of Carver County Community Social Services, the Connected Families staff started implementing the Signs of Safety framework in all county related casework. Using the simple, yet profound practice tools introduced by Dr. Andrew Turnell, our staff made a committment to learning and growing in our use of the Signs of Safety framework.
Under Dr. Turnell's leadership, after over 300 hours in training and consultation with Andrew, as well as through the privilege of working hundreds of cases with Carver County frontline workers, we are now offering training and consulting in the Signs of Safety framework. Dr. Turnell endorses our work, and holds us accountable for excellence. We will customize our training approach based on your agency's unique needs. Please email us If your agency is interested in customized training in the Signs of Safety Framework.
